How Security Shear Bolts Work

Countersunk shear bolts, alternatively called breakaway or snap off bolts, offer a premium security solution for applications where only the highest security will suffice. Fastened using a standard socket or spanner, the hexagonal portion attached to the countersunk head snaps off once the maximum torque of the bolt is reached, leaving a plain head with no drive with which to remove the bolt. Countersunk shear bolts are often chosen over their button head counterparts for their flat, low profile appearance once fixed, as when the hexagonal portion snaps off it leaves a smooth, continuous surface that maintains the aesthetics of the application. No security tools are required, however the bolt is irremovable once fastened in place, so these fixings are not suitable for applications requiring maintenance.

Usually manufactured in A2 or A4 Stainless Steel, or mild / high tensile Steel, coated in Zinc / Black or Galvanised. Other materials and finishes available on request.
