A Cage Nut is a usually square nut with a spring Steel cage wrapped around the nut.
The cage has two wings, that when compressed allow the cage to be inserted into holes, and when the wings are released, they hold the nut in position behind the hole.
The cage nut can be used wherever a square hole can be punched, and provides a number of benefits over threaded holes
Cage Nuts are sometimes referred to as Caged Nuts, Captive Nuts or Clip Nuts.
