Green Chromate Finish Screws, Fasteners and Fixings
A Green Chromate Finish is generally used on steel, aluminium and zinc, but can be used on a number of alloys – and the finish is commonly applied to everyday items such as tools and hardware – making it useful for fixings and fasteners.
Its general uses are to retain electrical conductivity or decrease the corrosion rate of the material, however, it can also be used as a primer or a decorative finish.
The coating process involves the use of hexavalent chromium, but this is changing due to the Restriction of Hazardous Substances directives, and non-hexavalent, chromium-based processes are now becoming readily available.
Chromating is more often than not done to galvanised screws and fasteners to ensure they are more durable, with the finish protecting the zinc from white corrosion.
