Duplex and Super Duplex Stainless Steel Screws, Fasteners and Fixings
Duplex Stainless Steels are becoming increasingly common within the fastener industry for a number of reasons, including higher strength which aids in weight saving – as well as greater corrosion resistance, particularly regarding stress corrosion cracking.
Duplex is considered cost-competitive when compared with stainless steels.
Advantages in steel making techniques, and specifically control of nitrogen content have made duplex steels more popular in recent years.
Duplex is created to try and reach an equal balance between the austenitic and ferritic types of standard steels, which provides a number of advantages in fixings, such as higher strength in structural applications, improved weldability, good toughness, and better resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
Particularly, the resistance to stress corrosion cracking is a true highlight of duplex stainless steel as other stainless steels struggle in this area – however, there is a negative, as they are more difficult to form and machine than austenitic steels.
Super Duplex Stainless Steels are popular due to their impressive combination of attributes. They are able to obtain significantly higher strengths than a number of other alloys, which allows goods made from super duplex to be used in a number of challenging applications.
They also offer excellent levels of corrosion resistance, indicating that they’re less likely to be affected by unfavourable elements.
We supply a range of Duplex Stainless Steel fasteners, in grades such as S31803/ASTM F1. Fasteners made of Super Duplex Stainless Steel can be provided in grades such as S32550, S32750 and S32760 – all of which provide varying properties depending on their composition.
If you require more information or would like to order a fastener in Duplex Stainless Steel, please contact us. Often used in the oil and gas industries, this material is less sensitive to stress corrosion cracking.
