Monel Screws, Fasteners and Fixings

Monel alloys are nickel-based alloys that contain between 29% and 33% copper, and have been available since 1905.

Monel Fastener Nuts and Bolts

In the early 1900’s it was used as roofing material, countertops, sinks and a number of other appliances but fell behind once the more versatile stainless steels were introduced in the 1950s.

There are a number of types of Monel, all of which contain up to 67% nickel – with some types containing iron, manganese, carbon or silicon. In some types, additions of aluminium and titanium increase strength.

There are a number of pros to using Monel fasteners, such as high corrosion resistance to acids and alkalis, a high mechanical strength, it’s ease of shaping and forming, as well as a relatively low cost alongside attractive appearance and finishes.

However, there are some disadvantages too. The machinability of Monel is poor because of a tendency to work-harden quickly.  It is corrosion resistant under many circumstances.

Monel fasteners can be manufactured in several different grades – all of which we can provide:

Monel 400 hosts excellent corrosion resistance to a range of corrosive environments. It is often used in the seawater and chemical industries as a result.

Monel K500 provides additional strength and hardness due to the addition of aluminium and titanium. This alloy is also used within marine and chemical applications.

When Monel is in contact with metals like aluminium, zinc and iron and severe weather conditions, it will cause said metals to corrode.
