Brass Slotted Castle Nuts, manufactured to DIN 935 / ISO 7035, are otherwise known as Castellated Nuts due to their resemblance to the upper walls of a castle.
Intended for low torque applications, these components feature a hex body with six open slots and are designed for use with Cotter Pins.
During installation with a spanner or wrench, the nut is tightened so that one slot is aligned with a pre-drilled hole in a threaded fastener such as a bolt, screw, stud, or rod. The split pin is then inserted through the hole to create a locking assembly and prevent movement.
DIN 935 Brass Slotted Castle Nuts are widely used in the automotive, aerospace and engineering sectors, as well as for applications where vibration would result in a loose fixing.
Slotted Hex Nuts and Castle Nuts are two separate fasteners, differing slightly in terms of design and availability:
-
- The slots on a Brass Slotted Hex Nut are part of the hexagonal body – available in thread sizes M6 to M10.
- The slots on a Brass Castle Nut are part of a round collared section above the hexagonal body – available in thread sizes M12 to M24.
Slotted Hex Nuts and Castle Nuts can also be supplied in other materials such as Steel, Stainless Steel, Aluminium and Titanium.
Non-standard sizes, materials and finishes are available to order as specials, including small volume manufacture, modifications and bespoke parts made to drawings. Minimum order quantities apply.
