High Corrosion Resistant Prevailing Torque Type Hexagon Nuts are one-piece nuts with a conical top and flat bottom bearing surface with chamfered corners.
Their locking action is created by distortion of the top threads and this resists loosening caused by shock, vibration and other dynamic forces. They are considered one-way nuts and can be referred to as All Metal Lock Nuts, All Steel Lock Nuts, Top Lock Nuts and more.
High Corrosion Resistant Prevailing Torque Type Hex Nuts achieve their prevailing torque by altering the shape of the nut, usually via distorting the threads, which then bites into the mating part when tightened.
Generally, the locking mechanism of the nuts increases the chance of corrosion and galling on the thread of the nut and paired bolt – but this is reduced compared to normal prevailing torque nuts due to the High Corrosion Resistant materials.
The nuts can be used in agricultural equipment and the automotive industry, as well as metalworking and others.
Duplex Stainless Steel Prevailing Torque Type Hexagon Nuts host high strength, higher than the likes of A2 and A4 Stainless Steel. They also host improved corrosion resistance than these steels, allowing use across highly corrosive applications.
A5 Steel Prevailing Torque Type Hexagon Nuts are often used within applications that require the withstanding of high levels of pressure or tension, and can often be found in marine applications.
1.4529 HCR (Grade A8) Steel Prevailing Torque Type Hexagon Nuts host an increased corrosion resistance and improved resistance to stress corrosion cracking, and are often found amongst pipeline systems, seawater equipment and other areas.
Available in the sizes listed below, as well as other sizes as specials. Super Duplex Stainless Steel specials are also available to order if the application requires higher strength or higher corrosion resistance.
Non-standard sizes, materials and finishes are available to order as specials, including small volume manufacture, modifications and bespoke parts made to drawings. Minimum order quantities apply.
