Sealing Rivet Nuts host a peripheral seal on their underhead bearing surfaces, dispelling the need for sealing washers of various material types.
When fully assembled, the sealing material is forced into gaps between the mating surfaces to form a robust seal on a number of materials including Stainless Steel, Brass and Aluminium, as well as a number of electroplated finishes.
In the vast majority of cases, the use of the sealant does not clearly alter the torque characteristics of threaded components, and if the seal is required to meet specific torque requirements, the seal can be modified with the addition of other materials.
There are different grades of seal available, with some providing excellent re-use capabilities amongst other properties – and also provide sealing against the likes of fuel, oil, brake fluid, antifreeze and more.
The Red seal has been specifically developed for applications within high temperatures and provides excellent adhesion to metals, glass, ceramics and plastics. Often found in construction, engineering and the automotive industry, the seal is resistant to ageing, weathering, and a number of solvents, lubricants and oil and water. It retains thermal stability in temperatures up to 300°C.
A Yellow seal is designed for use as a compression seal and hosts excellent chemical resistance to most automotive oils, fuels, antifreeze and transmission fluids, and therefore can be used across both machinery and the automotive industry. It can function in temperatures up to 150°C.
Blue seals, like the yellow seals, host excellent resistance to similar fluids and are also able to function up to 150°C. They can be applied to virtually any headed fastener, but are often found on rivet nuts, and help to fill gaps and reducing noise and vibrations. Some of the properties of the seal allow the fastener to be reused.
A Green seal also has excellent resistance to the fluids previously mentioned and has very good adhesion to most metals and some plastics, providing exceptional vibration and impact resistance. The seal can function up to temperatures of 100°C.
The sealant can be applied to almost all types of rivet nuts. Please note that some sealant grades may be better suited to certain types of rivet nuts.
Sealing Rivet Nuts are available at Fastenright in diameters ranging from M3 to M12 as standard.
