Rivet Nut Countersunk Knurled Open End, often referred to as Rivnuts, Blind Nuts or Nutserts®, are a form of internally threaded insert that is used in applications where the material thickness is too small to tap a conventional thread.
By using rivet nuts, a strong thread is created in thin sheets of material, for high strength fastening from bolts and other threaded articles.
The countersunk head is often chosen as it will sit flush within the application, leaving an aesthetically pleasing flat and smooth finish. The full countersunk head of this rivet is stronger than the reduced countersunk type but is also deeper meaning that it can only be used in material thicknesses greater than 1.5mm.
The knurled body of the countersunk rivet provides increased resistance to turning in the application, especially when installed in softer materials. The open end style allows the stud or male threaded component to thread through the rivet nut without limiting the length or protrusion of the male threaded part.
Installed with a special tool, these Countersunk open-end rivet nuts with a knurled body are engaged by the tool’s threaded stud which pulls upwards and deforms the unthreaded section of the rivet nut, causing expansion under the reverse side of the material and providing a high strength permanent thread in thin sheet material.
