Self Locking Nuts
Fastenright supply a wide range of self-locking nuts for various applications.
Lock nuts (also known as prevailing torque nuts or stiff nuts) are resistant to vibration & torque. They are primarily available in stainless steel and other finishes.
Their locking action is created by the distortion of their uppermost threads and should resist loosening caused by shock, vibration and other forces. They host a self-contained feature which creates frictional interference between the threads of mating components.
Locknuts are reusable a limited number of times as the prevailing torque declines each time the nut is used.
Lock nuts in stock
Most lock nuts are available ex stock and other sizes are available to order.
We also manufacture special products to customer drawings.

How to Choose the Right Locking Nut
Selecting the appropriate locking nut is important, especially when it comes to securing machinery, equipment, or structures. The right choice will help with stability, safety and longevity. Here are key factors to consider when choosing the correct locking nut:
Application –Â Assess the intended use. Different environments and industries require specific locking nut properties, such as resistance to corrosion, extreme temperatures, or vibration.
Material – Opt for a locking nut made from a material suitable for the application. Stainless steel, brass, and nylon are common choices for their durability and corrosion resistance.
Locking Mechanism – Evaluate the locking mechanism that suits your needs. Nylon-insert nuts provide resistance to vibration, while prevailing torque nuts offer high reusability.
Thread Type – Match the thread type and size of the locking nut with the mating component. Mismatched threads are not compatible and will result in damage.
Strength – Consider the load-bearing requirements. Choose a locking nut with the appropriate strength to ensure it can handle the job.
Ease of Installation – Some locking nuts are designed for quick and hassle-free installation, reducing downtime during maintenance or assembly.
Cost-Effectiveness – Balance quality with cost. Investing in high-quality locking nuts can prevent costly failures and replacements in the long run.
Supplier Reputation – Source locking nuts from reputable suppliers known for quality and customer support. Here at Fastenright we are proud of our outstanding reputation for both quality and value.
Selecting the right locking nut involves careful consideration of factors such as application, material, locking mechanism, thread type, strength, ease of installation, cost, and supplier credibility. Don’t hesitate to contact our experts at Fastenright for help, advice and a competitive price on the ideal locking nut whatever your application.
