M2 Screws

M2 screws wide range in stock, specials made to order

M2 screws are typically used in the manufacture of small items of electrical equipment, laptops, cameras and mobile phones. The “M” designation for metric screws indicates the outer diameter of the screw in millimetres, so for an M2 screw, the outer diameter is 2mm. However, in practice the actual diameter might be between 1.9mm-2mm due to manufacturing tolerances.

The standard pitch (distance between the threads) on an M2 is 0.4mm however we can offer non-standard pitches to order.

Each screw size is described using two numbers – the ‘M’ number and a number indicating the length of the shank, in mm, so M2 screw dimensions of M2 x 8, are 8mm long, measured under the screw head.

M2 screws are available in a wide range of materials including steel, stainless steel, brass, nylon, aluminium and titanium as well as exotic materials including Duplex, Super Duplex and Inconel.

We stock a range of M2 screws with different specifications, head styles and sizes, as you can see below. We also make special sizes to order.

We also supply M2 security screws – see our security screws catalogue for more information.

Typical Specifications for M2 Screws

Thread Size:

  • M2: 2 mm diameter.
  • Standard pitch: 0.4 mm (fine pitch for high precision).

Length:

  • Typically ranges from 2 mm to 50 mm, but custom lengths are available for specific applications.

Materials

M2 screws are available in a range of different materials. Call for

  • Stainless Steel (A2, A4): Highly corrosion-resistant, ideal for outdoor or humid environments.
  • High-Tensile Steel (Grade 8.8, 10.9): Suitable for applications requiring high strength.
  • Brass: Used for decorative purposes or in applications requiring low magnetic properties.
  • Titanium: Lightweight and corrosion-resistant, used in specialised industries.
  • Nylon/Plastic: Non-conductive, used in electronics to prevent short circuits.

Head Types

  • Pan Head: Low-profile, rounded top for general applications.
  • Countersunk Head: Flush finish for surfaces.
  • Socket Head (Socket ): Requires a hex key, used in applications needing high torque.
  • Button Head: Larger diameter with a low profile.

Drive Types

  • Pozi (Cross): Widely used for general-purpose fastening.
  • Slotted: Traditional but less common due to lower torque handling.
  • Socket or Hex Socket: High torque application and better grip.
  • Torx (TX): Provides excellent torque transfer with reduced risk of stripping.

Applications

M2 screws are commonly used in:

  • Electronics: assembling circuit boards, securing components, and fixing enclosures.
  • Precision Devices: Watches, cameras, and other fine instruments.
  • Model Making: Hobby and engineering models where small fasteners are necessary.
  • Automotive: Small assemblies like dashboard components and electronic systems.
  • 3D Printing: Securing parts of printers or small printed assemblies.

Advantages of M2 Screws

  • Compact Size: Ideal for small assemblies.
  • Versatility: Available in multiple materials, finishes, and head styles.
  • Precision Engineering: Fine threads provide a secure fit, even in lightweight materials.

Standards

M2 screws conform to the following international standards:

  • ISO Metric Threads: ISO 68-1, ISO 261.
  • DIN Standards: DIN 912 (socket head), DIN 7985 (pan head), etc.
