Shear bolts are a type of anti-theft bolt, used in many industries where robust permanent security fixings are required. A wide range is available from stock with specials made to order.

How shear bolts work

Shear bolts (or snap-off bolts) are a premium 1-way permanent security solution, ideal where maintenance is not required. The hexagonal shaped section on top of the bolt snaps off when fully tightened, leaving a tamper-proof dome, countersunk or cap head. Installation

The hexagon shaped section is the ‘drive’ part of the shear bolt and can be installed using a standard spanner or socket tool. Once the force applied to tighten the shear bolt reaches the shear-off torque, the hexagon section and collar snaps off, leaving only the shear bolt head with no drive or means of removal.
Shear bolts provide a permanent security fixing, ideal for use in prisons, banks, automotive, MOD and aerospace etc.
