Chrome Plated Finish Screws, Fasteners and Fixings
Chrome plating is the technique of placing a thin layer of chromium onto a fastener for either aesthetic purposes, corrosion resistance, increased surface hardness or ease of cleaning. Applied by electroplating, chrome is never melted onto, or sprayed onto a fixing.
There are two general types of chrome, hard chrome plating and nickel-chrome plating.
Hard chrome plating is for wear resistance, lubricity, oil retention and other wear-related purposes and is almost always applied to items that are made of steel. There are often variations within hard chrome, which are optimised for specific applications.
There is also decorative, or nickel-chrome plating which is exceptionally thin and only used for aesthetic reasons on fasteners – unless it is paired with a nickel undercoating.
