De-embrittled Finish Screws, Fasteners and Fixings
Any fasteners made from steel which are coated chemically or electrochemically may absorb hydrogen during the process, meaning they may need to be de-embrittled.
This hydrogen that has been absorbed could cause premature failure, especially if the part is made from high tensile steel.
Embrittled fixings usually fail when in use, but at stresses well below their normal level of failure, and usually in a relatively short time after assembly.
If hydrogen embrittlement is identified in a screw or fastener, the product will be de-embrittled through a cleaning and coating process using zinc flake and a further baking process to remove any hydrogen which may remain and results in a more resilient fixing.
